Batterer Intervention Program

Batterer Intervention Program
The goal of our Batterers Intervention Program (BIP) is to stop domestic violence in Alameda County by providing psychoeducational group therapy designed to address causes of domestic violence, re-educate aggressors, and assist them to develop nonviolence strategies.

Our 52 week program consists of groups that are same sex (men groups for men and women groups for women), and for those on probation, and/or parole, for a domestic violence offence. The groups are a safe place for group members and are led by experienced facilitators who are culturally competent. Each facilitator guides group members to examine the origins of learned behavior and to develop new beliefs and values that lead to self-discovery and new behaviors.

DV is learned behavior. We believe offenders can learn to understand and improve self-awareness, self-regulation, and to develop empathy for others, all contributing to a change in behavior. Change is a choice. Group members learn to choose options that lead to positive outcomes for everyone involved.
